Sumarah will be the Ravens' Ole Ball Coach

In unshocking news, the Carleton Ravens unveiled Steve Sumarah as their inaugural (does this count as inaugural if the had a team already?) head coach at 10:30 am today.

I'd have to think that the Carleton football brass somewhere are giggling like 12 year old girls that St. Mary's decided to can Sumarah for reasons unbeknownst to him. It always helps to get a program started with a bonafide (the Blogger spellcheck suggests I change this word to debonair - why?) elite CIS head coach.

Define elite, you say? Ok.

Sumarah was 42-18 at the helm of SMU, won three AUS coach of the year awards and the 2009 CIS coach of the year award.

Not bad.

More reaction as I gather my thoughts and hear Coach Sumarah's mission statements.

ROPSSAA Report January 16, 2012 2:16 PM

Assuming that the money promised by the investment group does not dry up, Carleton will be one of the bullies of the OUA in a very short time.

They will be playing out of an excellent, rebuilt facility. They will have a coach who did a fantastic job recruiting talent out of Ontario over the years. The school has proven what they can do when money is invested in a program (see the CU basketball juggernaught). Finally, and very importantly, acceptance at Carleton will be attainable by a much higher portion of high school graduates than most OUA schools (at least in general arts and social sciences). No playing a 5th year for QBs that are already CIS calibre simply to qualify for the coach's alma matter (*cough* Nelson HS *cough*)
